Jallikattu Ban and Controversy

What is Jallikattu?

India is land of cultures and traditions with numerous varieties. One of them is Jallikattu, popularly known as “Bull-Taming” in Extreme South India, Tamil Nadu, played just after the four days of Pongal festival. Jallikattu have combinedly form with two words, Jalli means “Silver or Gold coins” and Kattu means “Tied.”Amalgamating both states, coins tied on bull’s horns and whosoever will tame bull would be the winner. And the winning bull will service many cows sustaining the native breed. According to Tamilians, this bull taming has been playing since 2500 years back and it is controversial because of several injuries and even deaths.   
Sudden Wrath
A research was conducted by People of Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) that bulls are unstable intended. In 2016 the Central government on the request of Tamil Nadu Government lifted the ban on Jallikattu. But again this decision was challenged by many animal welfare organizations with PETA. They claim the human entertainment against cruelty on bulls as during the tame their tails are bitten, stabbed and tortured. Witnessing many celebrities stand by with these organizations to ban Jallikattu which actually does not want to hurt sentiments of Tamilians but to take step against bull cruelty.
Why Tamilians protesting the ban?
Tamilians symbolizes it as their pride as it is a tradition carried on for years. The sources can be found from Dravidian Literature and the indigenous people of Tamil Nadu. The youngsters and professionals fight is to reject the allegations that Jallikattu is cruel to the Bulls. They want to protect their culture and their pride symbol. Not only general public but celebrities also stand against the ban and they are dedicated towards the winning situation.

On the other hand many Bollywood stars stand against this situation as they want immediate ban and cruelty against Bull promoting humanity and protection for wildlife. It’s a war between traditions and humanity in between whom central government need to take action containing both the sentiments in value.
